The past weekend was wonderful, and thankfully involved very little law school. I was able to spend the weekend with Meryl at her new (awesome!!) studio apartment in Silver Spring.
On Friday the law school had a big crab-fest, which was all-you-can-eat crab (and beer) on the lawn of the basilica. Meryl and I went and she taught me the finer points of crab mutilation, and just where the hell the meat in those things are. Then we skipped off to see Corpse Bride, which was delightful, except for the rather lackluster and seemingly half-done musical score (could it be that Danny Elfman recently stopped snorting cocaine and became merely a middling composer?). The songs were simple, the lyrics were beyond trite (and repetitive), but at least the visuals were breathtaking. I can see why it took them so many years to film. Bottom line, the movie has no chance of replacing Nightmare Before Christmas in my (or Meryl's) heart.
On Saturday night my mom and stepdad came down to see me, and the four of us and family friends Doug & Sue (who live in MD) had dinner at "Buck's Fishing and Camping," and frankly it was fantastic! Absolutely delicious.
Then for the rest of the weekend Meryl and I hung out on her sofa, ate some wonderful Meryl-cooked food, watched some Monty Python and played far, far too much Fable on XBox.
Law school update: law school is progressing as well as one can expect. But... I'm getting antsy. I think I'm sick of schooling in general (though perhaps this could be a function of nobody ever liking the first year of law school) - I long for free time that is also free from the spectre of law study hanging over me, that nagging voice in the back of my head whispering "you should really be reading your Contracts and Civil Procedure..." There are times when I wish I had just become a professional graphic designer, or gotten a political/non-profit job instead. Oh well: things will be clearer depending on how I do on my finals in December.
And in other news, I finally got around to downloading DJ Danger Mouse's Grey Album. I must say, Danger Mouse did the impossible: he made Jay-Z listenable!

Re: say WHAAAAAT?
Honestly, I'm generally not a fan of Jay-Z, but I haven't listened to the Black Album yet. From what I'm hearing from the Grey album, it's worth a listen. Want to send me the mp3s? psjallthewaygmail[dot]comOctober 4 2005, 21:45:31 UTC 6 years ago
